Google Real-Time Search is a new feature by Google which was introduced in December 7, 2009 which aims to make it easier for Internet users to find updated information about a specific search query throughout the World Wide Web. Most of its information comes from different Internet sources including Twitter, Yahoo! Answers, Blogs, and Facebook status, which was only recently introduced later this year.

Real-time search first became popular when Twitter introduced their unique search engine algorithm. Compared to search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, or Bing, Twitter’s search engine algorithm focuses mainly on new posts, allowing searchers to find fresh and up-to-date information within the whole Twitter community.

Because of the success of Twitter’s own search engine, particularly with the convenience it gave to its users, Google decided to use the same approach in their new search engine to offer visitors near-instant updates on specific information they are looking for, which is now called as Google Real-Time Search.

According to our SEO Philippines Insiders, because of the idea of Real-Time search engines, the possibility of a new type or branch of SEO which would deal in real time search is evident, particularly now that Microsoft’s Bing have recently signed a contract with Twitter and Facebook which allowed them to utilize its search engine algorithm to offer real-time information similar with Google Real-Time.

Future of SEO in Real-Time

Future Tools and Techniques which can be used for Real-Time SEO

Because Google Real-Time and Bing’s own real time search engine relies on both Twitter and Facebook to offer up-to-date information, utilizing these websites may help in ranking higher in Real-Time search engines.

In addition to Twitter and Facebook, keeping an updated blog may also help websites to rank higher in Real-Time search engines, particularly for those blogs which are PubSubHubbub or PuSh enabled. Another important tool is by answering in Yahoo! Answers.

Future Spamming Problems in Real-Time SEO

According to our SEO Philippines Insiders, Real-Time SEO may become prone to spamming such as those used today in Twitter. A number of retweeting software are now widely used in Twitter which is to automatically retweet statuses or tweets to maintain its visibility in their search engines. Because of this, the likelihood of these tools being used in Real-Time search engines is not far from happening.

Designing a website isn’t only about art. According to our Web Design Philippines Insider, the practice of designing a website follows a strict principle of how a website should be designed. By following these set of principles, web designers are able to create a website which can also serve as a very powerful communication tool, particularly for businesses.

First Principle: Simplicity

Simplicity is the key to a successful website. One mistake in which many beginners lack in designing a website is that they focus more on creating a unique website, using more colors, images, and animations to attract visitors, paying less attention on other more important elements found in the website. One of which is its navigation.

The navigation bar or section is one of the most essential elements, for it allows visitors to quickly and easily navigate throughout the website. This makes it important to make it as simple and as accessible as possible, such as by removing unwanted animations within the navigation bar, although a simple drop down menu may be enough.

Second Principle: Clear Navigation

Emphasizing on the navigation allows visitors to quickly locate it. Many websites failed to notice this important principle by paying less attention on their navigation, which made it harder for visitors to navigate through the website, which causes visitors to leave.

Third Principle: Use of White Spaces

This is associated with the first principle in which using white spaces makes for a cleaner website compared to clattering it with images, texts, or other non-important elements.

Fourth Principle: Faster Load Time

By following the first principle, web designers can assure that their websites can load a lot faster compared to other websites. Although making a website more attractive through heavy use of images as well as “cool” Flash effects, it does, however, causes a major slow down in its loading time, which in turn would likely cause a visitor to hit the “back” button. This is because visitors would likely think that the website is non-responsive.

According to our Web Design Philippines Insider, if one or two images are enough to communicate with visitors, then other images should be removed. This allows the page to load faster compared to using a number of images.

As for the Flash movie, or other animations, it is best to just remove them. If it is important to add a Flash movie within a web page, then adding a pre-loader is required. This allows visitors to see if the website is still responding or not.

Fifth Principle: Using Tableless Website Layout

Using tableless website layout coincides with the fourth principle as it allows faster loading time compared with the use of HTML tables. Tableless website layout are accompanied by using CSS to arrange elements and text on a web page. The use of CSS also allows for cleaner and organized coding.

Sixth Principle: Browser and Resolution Compatibility

Because users use different browsers, such as IE, Safari, and Firefox, a website should always be as compatible as possible in any of these browsers. And this can be achieved with the use of CSS.

Because CSS is considered as the standard in modern web designing ethics, many recognized web browsers, such as IE, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome, supports the use of CSS. Because of this, designers can assure that their website is able to run in any browser of any version.

Another important principle to remember is the website’s compatibility in every type of screen resolution. Failure to follow this principle or practice may lead to a lot site problems in terms of user experience. This, however, can be done with the use of CSS as well as with the addition of JaveScript (JS).

Seventh Principle: Use of Readable and Professional Fonts

Although using unique fonts will add to a website’s uniqueness, experts normally recommend using fonts which are both professional and readable.

Making sure that one’s font is readable and professional looking allows a website to build its name as a reputable website providing reputable services and products. However, if it is necessary to include a number of unique fonts, JavaScript may help in allowing visitors to see what developers would like them to see.

This is because if a visitor’s computer doesn’t support the same font used in a website, its fonts would normally revert back to a default font which is readable for visitors. But according to our Web Design Philippines Insiders and experts, its best to just stick with compatible fonts as much as possible.

Eighth Principle: Use of Media Types

Many designers today, even professionals, have come to leave out the use of Media Types in their websites. Media Types are part of style sheet languages such as CSS which specifies how a document or web page is presented in different types of media, such as on screen, on paper, or with speech synthesizers such as projectors.

Final notes from our Web Design Philippines Insider

Simplicity is the key to a successful website; not only because it made it simpler and easier for visitors to navigate through the website, nor did it made it more professional with the use of the right fonts and white spaces, but websites became more accessible through search engines who normally gives more weight on websites with legit information, clean coding, and faster loading time.

Real-time notification is the name of the game today according to our SEO Philippines Insider. Because of search engines getting a bit more intelligent compared in the past, traditional SEO tactics and techniques, such as brute force link building, that we have grown to use are steadily becoming less and less effective. This is because search engines such as Google are becoming more like us than mere machines.

So what is PuSh got to do with this?

PuSh, or PubSubHubbub, is…

An open protocol for distributed Publish/subscribe communication on the internet. – Wikipedia

So this may seem like a normal Atom or RSS feed. However, it isn’t an entirely new feed system. PuSh was created to extend Atom and RSS’ protocols for data feeds. Its use is to produce instant notifications of changes and updates within a blog to a hub such as Google Alerts, allowing real-time notifications to its subscribers.

Use in SEO

Because search engines are become more like us; us who normally looks for new and fresh information in the World Wide Web; us who are keen in looking for reliable content; us who uses feeds such as RSS and Atom to get the latest headlines; search engines such as Google would likely make use of PuSh’s capabilities for real-time notifications as their main algorithm.

Though there isn’t any solid proof about this, Matt Cutts did leave a slight hint in an interview on Google’s move to make use of PuSh as their main algorithm. And according to our SEO Philippines Insider, this move may not be as impossible as it may seem because PuSh is developed and owned by Google.

This idea, along with the integration of PuSh in many of today’s blogs and feed systems such as Blogger, WordPress, Google Alerts, Google Reader, FriendFeed, FeedBurner and Google Buzz, producing fresh, reliable, and unique content may become one of the most effective SEO techniques in today’s modern algorithms.

Web designing is considered an art for many graphic artists. Not only does it make a website more inviting to the eyes of its visitors, but it also serves as a communication tool, allowing visitors to get a grip of what a specific website is all about within its construct or design.

Although the main principle may sound easy enough to follow, the part of doing it can be hard. This is the reason why tools were developed to help designers better create a web design that suits their objective as well as allow visitors to fully understand the website’s intent.

There are 3 types of tools in which our Web Design Philippines Insider have put together. These are:

Tools for Inspiration

Tools for Colors and Fonts

Tools for making a web designer’s life easier

Tools for Inspiration

1. Deviantart.com

DeviantArt.com is a popular social networking site made for artists. This allows them to feature their works of art and other artistic designs and characters for other artists to comment and discuss on.

However, many professional and expert web designers have also used this social networking site to feature some of their works in web design. This made it a popular “hang-out” place for many web designers who are looking for an inspiration for their next web design, which is why DeviantArt.com was marked by our web design Insider as one of the first indispensable tools for web design.

2. Stylevault.net

Similar to DeviantArt.com, Stylevault.net is also a popular social networking site for graphic artists and web designers alike. And similar to DeviantArt.com, it also allows them to feature some of their work, including a few web designs. This makes it another popular “hang-out” websites for those looking for a good website to follow.

3. flashmo.com

A popular website for full Flash avid fans, flashmo.com offers the widest range of “Free” flash templates for use of the public. Although built for Flash enthusiasts, web designers can still get their inspiration, particularly with its unique collection of full Flash websites.

Tools for Colors and Fonts

4. Adobe Kuler

Adobe Kuler is a tool used for creating color themes. Creating a color theme can be a pain for many web designers; this is why Adobe developed a tool in which designers can for creating color theme for their website.

Other than a component in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Kuler can also be accessed as a web-based application. The advantage of using the web-based application is its wider collection of color themes which came from other Adobe Kuler users.

Being a web-based application, Adobe Kuler allows users to share their color themes to other graphic artists as well as web designers, which is why our web design Philippines insider marked this tool as the first in Colors and Fonts.

5. Dafont.com

Dafont.com is a popular website which offers some of the widest collection of font styles which can be used in websites. Part of the reason why this website became popular is because it also offers free font faces for web designers; however, most of it requires payment.

Tools for making a web designer’s life easier

6. IconFinder.com

One of the most popular indispensable tools used by web designers, this website offers the widest collection of “Free” icons in the World Wide Web. This makes it easier for web designers to design a website without having to bother themselves in making their own icons for their website. This is the reason why our Web Design Philippines Insider chose this as one of the most indispensable tools in web designing.

7. Adobe BrowserLab

A new addition in Adobe CS Live, Adobe BrowserLab is a web-based application used for testing websites in different browsers of different versions, from Firefox and IE, to Safari and Chrome. This tool makes it easier for web designers to see their website’s outcome in IE while using a MAC OS, without having to buy and install an IE web browser.

8. Lorem Ipsum

Though a simple dummy text provider, Lorem Ipsum have become a popular tool used by many web designers. Part of what made it popular is that this tool made it easier for web designers to see what their website would look like if it has enough content within it.

9. FireBug

FireBug is Firefox add-on which allows web designers to edit and debug their website’s CSS and HTML in a real-time environment. This makes it easier for web designers to debug their website and see in real-time the changes it would make for their website. This, however, is not permanent. This tool is only used for testing purposes only.

10. W3C.com

W3C.com offers a free validator to check if your website conforms in today’s web standards. Other than HTML and XHTML, it also offers a CSS validator.

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a very effective tool for the success of a website in terms of visibility and accessibility through search engines, particularly among major search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, and Bing.

Because of its popularity and effectiveness in Internet marketing, a number of techniques were developed to achieve better results in search engine result pages or SERPs. Most of these techniques conforms with the guidelines issued by search engines in which SEO specialists should always follow.

However, because of the growing competition in SEO, many web masters and specialists have employed techniques which is used for manipulating the SERPs to give more weight on their website compared to others which are usually more relevant than those that uses these techniques.

Today, however, most of these manipulative techniques, known as Black Hat SEO, have become ineffective. Websites caught using such techniques were banned from their indexes. This is because search engines, particularly Google, have become more intelligent, allowing them to differentiate a website using Black Hat SEO from a relevant website.

So what is the most effective technique which can be used in SEO that won’t harm a website’s reputation in the World Wide Web?

Believe it or not, the most effective technique used in SEO, particularly in today’s modern algorithms, are still those which were used when SEO was first introduced in Internet Marketing, which is fresh and unique content.

Why still use this technique?

According to our SEO Philippines Insider, Google, and other major search engines, gives more weight on living websites, meaning a website with new and fresh content. However, other than just new content, these should also be unique. This is because Google have reduced the weight on duplicate contents.

Because of this, many websites have already incorporated a blog which allows them to share new and unique content which can prove useful for many readers.

In addition to its effectiveness in today’s algorithm, fresh and unique content is also a type of organic link building or link bait. If a content or a blog post is very useful, many would normally link to that content or post. This leads to the growth of links organically, which is a much faster way to gain a lot of links in a short period of time.

Backdrop

However, like many other White Hat SEO techniques, this method takes a lot of time, typically because creating a unique and fresh content is not an easy feat. This is the reason why many SEO companies would resort to Black Hat SEO, which is much faster, but risk their website getting banned from search engines.

According to our SEO Philippines Insider, all it needs is a good link building scheme (which would not violate the search engine guidelines), continues creation of fresh content, as well as social bookmarking so as let the public know that your website has a new content which they can use and share with others.

There have been a number of tools developed to make it easier for our web designers to design a website; from conception of ideas, to delivery of the final design. Today, a number of new tools were developed to further assist web designers in designing a website. One popular tool was developed by Adobe which is used to enhance a website’s accessibility in all types of popular web browsers. This is Adobe BrowserLab.

Adobe BrowserLab is a new addition to the Adobe CS Live Collection which was developed to assist web designers to test and compare their website with different popular web browsers, including Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Safari. This application allows them to cross check their website’s appearance from different browsers either side-by-side or in an onion skin view.

According to our Web Design Philippines Insider, Adobe BrowserLab also supports different versions of different browsers, from Firefox 3.0 of OS X and Windows to Internet Explorer 6. This allows a more in-depth look at their website’s accessibility and usability in different browsers of different versions.

Another feature of using Adobe BrowserLab is its full integration with Dreamweaver CS5, which allowed users to test their website in different states of interactive pages. According to our Web Design Philippines Insider, Its full integration also allows users to launch Adobe BrowserLab directly from Dreamweaver CS5.

In a nutshell, here is what Adobe BrowserLab can do:

Allows users to easily cross check their website’s appearance from different browsers.

Allows users to view differences from one browser to the other through side-by-side view or through onion skin view.

Supports all types of browsers currently used today.

Also supports older versions of browsers such as Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer 6.

Allows web designers and developers to test their website with different browsers with any operating systems, such as by testing their website in IE by using Mac OS.

Allows cost cutting by replacing the use of different testing applications and software.

Full integration with Dreamweaver CS5, allowing web designers to test different states of interactive pages.

Full intergration with Dreamweaver CS5 also allows users to launch Adobe BrowserLab through Dreamweaver CS5.

Being an online service, Adobe BrowserLab requires no maintenance, meaning all upgrades are made automatically to assure all functions are up-to-date.

According to our Web Design Philippines Insider, Google announced in January 29 of 2010 that it will start its phasing out process of supporting Internet Explorer 6 or IE6. And in March 1, 2010, Google, and all of its web-based applications and services, have stopped supporting IE6.

Other than Google, YouTube have also withdrawn its support for IE6 in March 13, 2010. And now, many major websites have begun their campaign to discourage people in using IE6, encouraging them to upgrade their browser to a higher version, particularly for IE8.

So why withdraw their support for IE6?

Reasons for withdrawing their support for IE6 is still uncertain. But there are a number of known speculations.

Some say its because of security problems. But according to our Web Design Philippines Insider, one of the reasons which led many to withdraw their support for IE6 is because of its rendering issues due to its poor support on CSS2.

This problem also caused a number of difficulties for many web developers, which led them to use unorthodox techniques and methods in CSS, such as CSS hacks. This is why many web developers and designers fully support the campaign for discouraging the use of IE6.

The question now that many web developers are asking;

“What if CSS 3 is released and that many are still using IE6 as their main browser?”

This is because, up-til now, 20% of the total browser market share are IE6 users, majority of which are coming from the business sectors who are still using Windows XP as their main OS.

One of the Java tool we are looking at is the ActiveObjects ORM for Java. This tiny library helps the Java Programmer to easily communicate with the database without using SQL statements in an object-oriented manner. You can also take advantage of the power of SQL because this library still provides the function to execute SQL statements.

ActiveObjects ORM are available for download on activeobjects.dev.java.net. You can also visit that URL for more information about this library.
